Meet the Chimpanzees: Mari

Mari (female, estimated to have been born in 1976)

Mari is small and not very strong physically, so she is more likely to get hurt when fights break out. Still, she is very good at handling the males and seems to know how to get them on her side.

Her eyes are sharp, her voice is powerful, and when something bothers her, she makes her feelings known with a loud call. In the colder months, she loves staying near the indoor heater and is often reluctant to move from her favorite warm spot.

She is calm and easy-going with people, so she is often the chimpanzee we introduce first to newcomers who are just getting used to being around chimpanzees.
