Rainy Season Treats

11/06/2026

The other day, we introduced some of the chimpanzees' "spring treats." This time, we would like to share their "rainy season treats."

The Tokai region has now entered the rainy season, and the weather has become rather humid and damp. But this is also the season when many kinds of fruit can be harvested. At the Institute for the Evolutionary Origins of Human Behaviour, a variety of fruit trees have been planted, and this year again, they have produced plenty of berries such as juneberries and mulberries, as well as gumi berries and loquats.

Among these, loquats are especially popular with the chimpanzees. Many of them eat the fruit right away, but Pan and Akira took their time and enjoyed them slowly.

Pan picked them up and ate them one by one.

Akira took a bite, looked at it,

took another bite,

looked at it again,

and continued eating.

Next time, we'll be sharing the chimpanzees' "summer treats"!
