The Sleeping Faces of Chimpanzees
September has brought some unsettled weather this year, with long spells of rain and heavy downpours followed by hot days when temperatures rise above 30°C (86°F). The weather has been rather unpredictable. Still, the days are gradually getting shorter, and the nights longer. We can sense the approach of fall in the coolness of the mornings and evenings. Both we and our chimpanzees can now get a good night's sleep to recover from the fatigue of summer. Perhaps the chimpanzees enjoy some more comfortable naps during the day, too.
So, this time, I would like to share some photos of the chimpanzees at our research institute taking naps during the day or settling down for the night. (Some of the photos are from previous years.)
After dinner, when the days are still long and the evenings are warm, some chimpanzees begin their night's sleep outdoors.
Indoors, many of them sleep in hammocks or on platforms. They also bring their own fabrics up with them.
After turning off the lights and securing the doors, another day comes to an end.
Good night…
